While it is true that progressive taxation can reduce total tax revenue, it is (as of today) impossible to determine at what marginal tax rate the incentive to stay home is stronger than the incentive to work.  I would argue that it&#039;s much higher than 50%...and probably much closer to the 70% of the Carter era than you&#039;d like to believe.

The reason why so many Americans are not paying anything is because they are out of work and poor, because our monetary unit ran this country into the ground.  Whining about progressive taxation when our economy is at a screeching halt is unnecessary and ridiculous.

If anything, we need a cut in spending combined with an increase in taxes across the board when this ridiculous depression is over.</description>
